This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

RES is a Title I elementary school located in Richmond, Virginia. The students who walk our halls are bright, energetic, expressive, and full of innovative ideas. My fourth grade classroom is made up of 23 fourth grade students, an instructional assistant, a one-to-one aide, and me!

We are the inclusion classroom for the grade level, meaning we are a mixture of all learning levels and needs!

To be more specific, a high population of the students in my room have specialized learning goals and accommodations outlined by an Individualized Education Plan.

Due to the diverse needs in our classroom, I am always looking for innovative ways to engage all students and meet each child on his or her learning level. In our room, we strive to see the beauty in diversity, let our brilliance shine, and release the leader within us!

My Project

"The Lemonade War" is a realistic fiction book about competing siblings, Evan and Jessie Treski, who go to "war" selling lemonade. Through the trials and tribulations of running their lemonade stands, the siblings learn how to become successful entrepreneurs!

Students will journey alongside Evan and Jessie, all the while becoming more fluent readers, critical thinkers, and increasing their financial literacy!

With a copy of the book in their hands, each student will be able to analyze the charts, graphs, and math problems found within the pages.

"The Lemonade War" is more than a children's book, it's a gateway for discussions on the real world application of math. Students light up when they are able to connect learning inside the classroom to the world that surrounds them!
