My Project
Since stepping into the role of art educator at Blue Creek Elementary two years ago, I have worked to rebuild our art program from the ground up, using Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) centers to create a student-driven, creative learning environment. This approach has reignited our students' love for art, giving them voice, choice, and confidence. One area of art they are especially eager to explore is ceramics and sculpture—students have been asking to work with clay since my first day. Unfortunately, due to missing kiln parts and a lack of basic sculpture supplies, we’ve been unable to fulfill this part of the curriculum. With grant funding, we can purchase essential tools, clay, armatures, wire, and texture materials, as well as support the eventual use of our kiln once repairs are completed.
Our school is part of a district that spans several cities in a county home to a military base and air station, and our student population reflects this diversity.
Many of our students are from military families and face frequent transitions. We also serve 25% exceptional children, 20% English language learners, 80% low-income students, and a small but important population of academically gifted learners. Ceramics and sculpture offer unique, sensory-rich opportunities for all students to engage meaningfully in art, build confidence, and develop fine motor and problem-solving skills. Your support would give every child the chance to experience the joy and empowerment of creating in three dimensions—something they’ve been waiting patiently to do.
