This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students this year are special because they are passionate about music. They are independent, curious, and best of all, they inspire me! Fourth grade can help set the tone in a student's emotional well-being, middle school is here before they know it! Feeling confident and happy, they'll have better-coping skills in 5th grade and middle school. Although our low-income school does not have a music program, this year we started a guitar class!
Students can cope during hardships if they hold on to a sport, hobby or music.
My Project
Having a class set of guitars that work will give my class the chance to have a complete guitar ensemble. Two of our students have broken guitars. Our school can not afford brand name instruments, some of our guitars are not the best quality. Unfortunately, two guitars have broken with normal use beyond my ability to repair them.
Our students' low socioeconomic status show many challenges.
My students have learning needs such as developing basic reading and math skills and students lacking abilities to problem-solve or advocate for themselves. Being able to learn to play the guitar as a class builds their confidence, self-esteem, and discipline which can be applied to any area of their lives!
