Help me give my students the tools to learn about history through film! These movies will help bring to life fascinating parts of history and promote great discussion.

My Students

Welcome to my classroom! My students are all in Special Education. They are faced with many challenges including educational labels, disabilities, poverty, and social challenges that come with being people of color. I focus on teaching my students how to be tenacious while building literacy and school success skills.

Energetic, lively and diverse-young people preparing to be independent, productive members of society.

My students are all juniors or seniors in high school that are working on gaining life-long literacy skills and preparing for graduation to help them achieve their post-secondary goals.

My Project

In 7th hour, we watch movies. We watch mostly true stories. Movies that teach positive life lessons. Historical films. Meaningful movies. Movies that make us cry. Movies that make us cheer for joy at the happy ending. Most of these films are student selected. They want to watch more films about African-American history.

These films will be watched, discussed and connected with.

Yes, we watch movies and eat snacks but we also answer comprehension questions, think about large ideas and learn valuable life lessons. We learn history. We learn empathy. We learn about the human experience and how to make a greater impact through our experience.
