This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my first year teaching in a Title I school and from the first week of starting, I can already tell that my students are amazing. My students come from poor backgrounds but their parents are a blessing with helping out as much as they can. Unfortunately our funding was cut so the resources that were once used for kindergarten are no longer at the school. We have no access to a color printer and we are limited to how much we can print AND laminate. Due to the circumstances, I would like to have a printer and laminator for our classroom so that I can set up guided reading and math centers as well as resources for RTI. These will be resources that I can continue to use in the class over and over but to also send home with my students to practice with. I believe my students deserve nothing but the best and I know a little goes a long way.
My Project
Having these materials in the classroom will help each student in receiving the instruction needed for intervention in reading and math on the spot instead of being limited by how much can be provided for them. By printing out different resources for the students, they'll be able to share (for those students who's needs are the same) but also to take them home and practice so that they can improve their literacy and mathematics skills. My goal is to have my students reach on or above level in their math, literacy and phonics skills to go to the first grade.
