My Project
In the three years since the COVID-19 Pandemic, I have seen the behaviors in my kindergarten classes shift and become more challenging. These young children lost out on so much socialization, opportunities for movement, and connection to others during the lock down, and it is very apparent. My goal with the items I have selected is to better meet the increasing sensory needs in the children (weighted lap blanket, wiggle cushions, squeeze ball) so that they can learn to regulate themselves and participate more easily in our days. They also lost out on opportunities to be with other children and families, especially other children and families who don't look like their own. I have chosen many books to help bring more diverse stories and pictures to the children. My classroom has a strong play-based element and we are in need of a play refrigerator for our play kitchen. This is one of the children's favorite places to play and a few more elements would make it easier for more children to play at the same time. We also need a few more STEM items (Blocks & Boards and Makit Woodbuilders).
