My Project

This project will help to provide materials to fill the gaps in middle school classrooms and common spaces in our K-8 STEM school. Our common spaces include a library, maker space, and a lego lab where classes come together to engage in STEM lessons. Most STEM lessons are hands-on which require some school supplies for students to show their thinking about their engineered designs. Since the pandemic, these common spaces are used on a more regular basis and materials are in need of replacement. As we are getting back into these spaces, we are seeing that we are in need of materials to help us close in these gaps. Each of these three common spaces need new electric pencil sharpeners, and markers. The maker space is home to fabrication devices like laser cutters, 3D printers, and light duty wood working tools. Our maker space is in need of hand-held sanders, painting materials, and wood sheets for projects in the laser cutter. The maker space is used often and since sometimes learning is messy, a push broom will help to keep the floor clean and safe for students.

Inclusion is very important in our STEM identity.

Our students do not require testing to enter STEM school and we accept students who need IEPs or have special needs. Middle school classrooms are in need of headphones for various uses like coding projects that make sounds, watching instructional videos, and for students who require text-to-speech to access reading. Calm strips are needed for students who are affected by hyperactivity disorders and anxiety. We are hoping to provide colors of the world markers so students can see themselves in their drawings of engineered designs.
