I'm new to second grade after teaching fourth grade for eight years! I want to provide my students with fun and exciting phonics and math experiences that are developmentally appropriate as well as stimulating. Games and hands-on learning experiences are vital to supporting student engagement and interest. Direct instruction on a whiteboard easel goes hand-in-hand with teaching students the skills necessary to play the games and use the manipulatives.
My goal for this project is to create a collection of exciting learning experiences for my students.
Phonics and addition/subtraction are the foundation of a child's success - as I've seen firsthand while teaching fourth grade. My hope is to seamlessly transition to the role of a second-grade teacher by providing these special learning opportunities and pique their interest in the most important skills they'll develop this school year.
My students are special because they are part of the classroom family we will be creating this year! They each bring their unique personalities and skills to the classroom. Each one of them is meant to be in my class and I know I will learn just as much from them as they will learn from me!
