Good nutrition is linked to better academic achievement. By providing healthy snacks, teachers can contribute to a learning environment that supports students’ cognitive development and performance. Sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances like a delayed bus or a missed breakfast, students might come to class hungry. Having snacks on hand allows the teacher to address these situations promptly. Not all students come from backgrounds where they have consistent access to nutritious food. Having snacks available ensures that all students have the opportunity to eat during the day, regardless of their economic situation.
Snacks in the classroom can be a practical and compassionate way to ensure that students’ physical, emotional, and academic needs are met.
It’s important, however, to choose healthy options and manage snack time in a way that minimizes distractions and maintains a clean learning environment.
