Students want to fill their "guts" with a good book series. In my class this year, students could not get enough of reading books by Dan Gutman. Since we have single copies of the books in our school library they had to compete with others to checkout their favorite titles.
Our Title I school consists of approximately 650 students in grades K-5.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and are eager to learn. They receive differentiated instruction from highly qualified teachers who strive to meet their diverse needs. The school is located in an inner city community in the state of Virginia and has a very transient population of students.
My Project
Since the author has written a series that focuses on the characters moving to third grade, I would like to develop literature groups for students to discuss these books. They will have multiple copies of books to read with other third grade students. Students will become more fluent in their reading and discussions will increase reading comprehension. We will also work in collaborative groups on extension projects related to these books.
Your support of this project will make it possible for third graders to have books they enjoy reading.
You will also promote literacy and help develop third graders into more stronger and fluent readers.
