Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember that feeling of walking into your school's library each week so excited to check out your next book? Our children do not get to experience that! We need library books for our children to check out to read for enjoyment and to complete research projects in their classrooms.
Our high poverty level students have been lucky enough to begin this school year in a brand new building!
However, our district is very large and we do not have a lot of money. Currently there are 20 books for the children in our library. We desperately need books to start filling these shelves. The books will be used for the children to check out each week and read at home and during silent reading times in class. They will also be used for research projects and book reports in the classrooms.
Our children do not have books of their own at home due to their income status. School is the only place that they can access them is here at school. Currently we do not have enough books for an entire class, let alone our entire school. The students are also unable to complete research projects about famous people or write papers about subjects related to their daily objectives because we do not have a nonfiction section.
My Project
The students will be able to use these books to check out each week. These books will give them the opportunity to read at home, a luxury most of them do not have. They will also give the teachers books to supplement with their lessons and projects throughout the year.
The students will be able to enrich what they are learning in the classroom by reading about and researching the objectives they are studying using the new books we will be able to supply them with. The students will finally be able to complete book reports and reviews, participate in book talks or book circles, write reports about nonfiction topics, and build their knowledge through reading!
Please help us put books in the hands of our youngest learners, so that we may help encourage the love of reading and education!
Don't let our lack of funds hold back these amazing children in their pursuit to succeed! Help us build on and enrich what we are working so hard to teach them in the classroom and give us the materials we need to meet their objectives for each year.
