Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is the 3rd part of the original proposal.
Fifth grade science is very challenging for my students' young minds. It is very difficult to envision all that takes place through the course of an experiment without doing it, and oftentimes the concept taught is not understood. I would love for my students to have the opportunity to experience these things for themselves. Along with having moved our whole population of students to a new school, we have also received over 310 students from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. With the influx of students, materials have been limited. These students, along with our original students, have the right to learn the correct way with the correct materials.
For this to happen, I need several different science kits that both the students and I can use to conduct experiments. The kits I have asked for will come in very handy along with binder/journals which they can record their observations. I am a manipulative driven teacher, even in the 5th grade. The students thoroughly enjoy being able to experience their learning first hand rather than watching someone else do it. My 50 students this year will benefit if they are received prior to the end of the school year and if not, they will be used by my students next year, also about 50.
Again, it is very hard to be a scientist without any types of materials. Being able to experience what they read in books first hand will be very beneficial to them learning the concepts!
