Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an amazing group of 1st graders. They come to class eager to learn. They have been impacted by the pandemic and are excited for a year of normalcy.

My students love reading and are excited to have a diverse library available to them whenever they want it!

My Project

I teach very diverse students who love learning. I will be purchasing a library full of diverse books so that my library is full of windows and mirrors. There will be many choices for them when choosing a book to read.

My students will see themselves reflected in the pages of our books, but will also see windows to different cultures.

I will also use these books to guide my lessons for reading. They will help teach my students story elements that are vital for reading comprehension. By using diverse books, students will be more engaged in the lessons, which will increase literacy in my class.

I will also get e-readers so they can have any book at their fingertips. Having e-readers for my students will allow them to practice their reading with support. When they get to a tricky word, the e-reader will help them work through it to help increase their stamina and growth.
