Fidgety Learners Need Flexibility

My students need flexible seating, like balance chairs and wobble cushions, as well as earbuds, book bins and risers.

My Students

We are a Title I school that is located in an urban area that serves families from many backgrounds and cultures.

The school serves a diverse population where over half of the students are bilingual. Nearly 60% of the students are Hispanic, 17% African-American, and 12% Caucasian. Additionally, 99% of our students qualify for the free and reduced-price lunch program. More than three-fourths of the student population resides in low-income apartment complexes, and many also live in section 8 housing.

Our staff works to fill not only educational needs, but social and emotional needs also. Our students are amazing and try each day to do their very best. Their spirit to learn and become successful inspires me every day!

My Project

This project will benefit multiple students throughout the years. Every person learns in a different manner. Some of us learn better laying down, sitting up, or moving around. The stability ball chairs, wobble cushions, furniture risers and stadium seats I am requesting will allow some of my students to wiggle while working and reading. When they are comfortable while working they are more likely to work to their full potential. I have also requested book bins for my students to keep their supplies in, and headphones for them to use and keep in their bin.

Offering seating options will help every student in my classroom focus better and in turn will help them absorb more material from lessons!

They will also have a larger role in their education, because they will be making the decision of what will be best for them and their learning.
