Fidgety But Focused

Help me give my students the benefit of enhanced engagement and focus through the use of adaptive and flexible seating options such as wobble cushion seats, fidget bands, and swivel stools.

My Project

Adaptive seating is unique in that it caters to the needs and preferences of individual students who may need the ability to fidget and move around while learning. It allows them to be more comfortable and not have to constantly be reminded to be still. My students, like all others, work best and are most engaged when they are comfortable and feel like they are in charge of their immediate environment. All kids get fidgety and squirmy to some degree, and that can interfere with their focus and attention as well as that of those around them. In the past, I have noticed more enthusiasm about the learning process as well as better focus and engagement in students who can get their energy out quietly in a controlled manner.

Providing each student with a personal space that adapts to their needs is a more dynamic arrangement that will help students feel more empowered in their educational journey.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them a space that allows for fidgeting and movement without disruption to the learning environment. The wobble cushion seats and fidget bands are a good choice for students who struggle with attention, fidgeting, sitting still, or just staying seated. They allow the student to move around a little without being noisy or disturbing those around them. The cushions can also be easily moved to the rug to create a separate learning area for small group activities. The stools will provide seating for a group of students at a table for small group instructional time, and they will also accommodate students who need the ability to move around while seated. All kids are fidgety, but with the right equipment, they can also stay focused!
