My Project
In a meta-analysis published in 2020 in the National Library of Medicine, it was stated that: “Throughout development, math anxiety and math achievement guide people down pathways that lead to different learning outcomes, educational pursuits, and career choices. Despite the importance of math anxiety and math achievement in shaping these pathways, inequities in these factors have been reported for certain groups, including females, people of racial and ethnic minority backgrounds, and students with learning disabilities.”
Fidgets are intended to help individuals do two primary things: regulate and concentrate.
With plenty of fidgets, enough for every student to have one to keep and leftovers to stay in the classroom, students will have a invaluable tool to assist in engagement in math class, as well as any of their other classes where they choose to utilize it.
Included in this project are pre-sharpened pencils for students to take as needed, as well as pencils shaded “everything but peach” and rainbow colors.
Since our school population is more than 90% Black and brown students, I felt compelled to choose materials for this project exclusively from Black and brown vendors, as categorized by DonorsChoose as Underrepresented Creators & Businesses.
