My Project
My goal is to make sure I have a variety of fidget toys on hand in my classroom. I think fidget toys will benefit the students in my class no matter if they have an IEP. Any students can benefit from fidget toys (especially 3-5 yr olds). I'm a preschool teacher and my students come in to class sometimes crying and screaming because they want to go home or they are experiencing separation anxiety. I know having fidget toys will help my students learn that when I am feeling something uncomfortable, there might be a way that I can stimulate myself to cope with that emotion until something changes. Also, fidget toys can be a great self-regulating tool as they can have a calming effect.
Fidget toys also improve learning as they allow the brain to filter out extra sensory information, helping the child actively listen, pay attention and focus on the task.
Fidgets help improve attention through toy manipulation, allowing the child to concentrate on tasks in the classroom or online. Along with improved learning benefits, fidgets can also enhance hand-eye coordination and development of the small muscles in hands in fingers, improving the child’s readiness for writing and boosting their school success.
