Fidgets, Fiction & Focus: Fueling Young Readers

My Project

This project is all about helping my upcoming 3rd graders feel safe, excited, and right at home as they begin a brand new school year. Third grade is a big step—new routines, new expectations, and for my future students, a new teacher too. I’m new to their school, and I want to create a warm, welcoming classroom where every student feels seen, supported, and eager to learn.

To help ease those first-day jitters and build a space that feels comforting and engaging, I’m putting together a cozy classroom library filled with high-interest books like Dog Man and The Babysitters Club.

These stories spark curiosity and joy, and they’re perfect for helping kids fall in love with reading while building fluency and confidence.

I’m also including flexible seating and fidget tools to support all types of learners. Some students need to move a little to stay focused—and that’s okay! Giving them the tools to wiggle while they work helps them feel comfortable and included.

The library will be the heart of our room—a calm, inviting corner where students can relax with a good book, take a quiet moment, or enjoy the magic of reading. My goal is to create a space that feels like home from day one. With your support, I can build a classroom where every child feels excited for the adventure of third grade, even if their teacher is new. Together, we can make their next chapter the best one yet!
