We start every morning with a song full of smiles, pinkie finger hugs, handshakes, and waves to our classroom friends. When it's time to start the lesson, it starts like this:
Teacher: Are you r e a d y?
Students: Yes we are!
And off we go, ready to tackle the day of learning that lies ahead!
We have an incredibly bright and energetic family of students in our classroom.
We are a high-achieving high-poverty primary grade school in a high-poverty parish. Our students are eager to learn as much as they can. Though we may not have the same resources available as more affluent areas, we do great things with what we are given.
My Project
We are little sponges absorbing all that we can, but we could use some extra help in keeping our minds more focused. These balance discs and bands will help us to keep our minds centered while our bodies are engaged. The balance disc promotes core stability, strengthens muscle tone, improves balance and body posture. As a wiggle seat it can provide sensory input, and to help calm children that have a hard time sitting still. The bands children enjoy bouncing their feet and feeling the tension to relieve their anxiety, hyperactivity, frustration, or boredom.
A large number of my students struggle with attention deficits.
As much as they try to "keep calm and learn", their bodies require a certain amount of constant stimulation. These balance tools will greatly help to channel that energy through movement without compromising their ability to concentrate on the lesson or activity we are doing.
