My Students
I teach special needs preschool students, many with significant developmental delays. All have communication needs. My students are energetic and playful, and they have a desire to learn. They need added support to learn and make progress on educational goals.
Preschool is a time to explore, learn new environments and learn to interact with peers.
It is also a time to explore different ways to express ideas and to communicate with others. We use many visual aids to assist with communication and learning.
We are an urban school consisting primarily of children from underprivileged families. We have great parent involvement and a supportive PTA, but many parents cannot afford to provide other financial support.
My Project
Many of my special needs students have multiple sensory issues. I also hope to use these fidget toys to provide reward for on task behavior. The popper toys and stress balls will help students stay seated for activities. The light up fans, squiggles, and poppers will also be great motivational toys.
Fidget toys provide a fun way to work on sensory issues and attention problems.
Having small ready items to help students attend and transition to activities will be a great help with my classroom management. These items will also be a big help in creating a sensory/ stress relief room for the special needs preschool and kindergarten students.
