My Students

What a fantastic environment Kindergarten continues to be! Each day my students come to school eager to learn and try their best. Our class size is small this year, allowing for extra individualized attention and flexibility in the class with materials and distancing, even in these continuous trying times.

One area of need in my class this year is the use of some flexible seating and "fidgeting" items.

It is difficult for little bodies to sit comfortably on the carpet while learning, and in seats during "work time". Though we are constantly moving between activities and learning opportunities, I would love for each child to have some added resources to help them focus.

My Project

My Kindergarten students attend for a full day of learning. We begin school at 8:25 and our day concludes at 3:10. With the increased rigor in the curriculum and end of year expectations, there is no longer time to nap. In addition, with COVID protocols, this year my the students eat breakfast in our classroom, and on bad weather days have recess in the room as well.

While I keep in mind my students' attention spans, a full day of sitting and attending to learning is difficult, even with brain breaks and planned activities.

The cushions will allow the students some comfort while sitting on the floor for whole group learning and the bands will afford them the opportunity to move while working at their seats. The fidgets will also allow them a sensory tool that can help them to focus while not creating distractions or noise for others in the room.
