My Project
Fidgets can be powerful tools in promoting mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom. For many students, especially those who experience anxiety, attention challenges, or sensory processing needs, fidgets offer a simple, non-disruptive way to self-regulate. The tactile stimulation from fidgets can help students manage stress, stay focused during instruction, and reduce impulsive behavior.
When students are able to calm their minds and bodies, they are more available for learning and engagement with others.
In addition to supporting mental well-being, fidgets can play a valuable role in teaching emotional regulation. As I teach students how and when to use fidgets appropriately, it will help them with recognizing emotional states, practicing self-control, and responding to stress in healthy ways. This will empower students to take ownership of their emotional needs while learning coping strategies that can be applied beyond the classroom.
Fidgets will also promote inclusion and empathy within our learning environment. By normalizing the use of tools that support diverse needs, I hope to create a space where differences are understood and respected. This will foster a sense of belonging and help support peer relationships as my students learn to recognize that everyone has unique ways of managing emotions and attention. Ultimately, these specifically chosen fidgets contribute to a more supportive, responsive classroom that will value both academic and emotional growth.
