This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a special education inclusion teacher, I have the joy of supporting students from kindergarten through 3rd grade, those with IEPs and their peers in general education. Each child I work with shows strength and resilience in their way.

Each day, I witness quiet bravery: a child who struggles with speech raising their hand for the first time, a student with sensory needs learning to regulate their body, a general education peer offering kindness and patience without being asked.

These are not just academic moments, they are life moments. And they deserve to be seen, celebrated, and remembered.

This year has brought many challenges emotionally, academically, and socially, but my students showed up. They kept trying. And together, they grew not just individually, but as a community.

To honor that journey, I want to give each of them a gift: 90 loot bags filled with calming tools and sensory items, meant not only to bring joy but to support their continued growth beyond the classroom. These gifts are for everyone I’ve supported this year, not just students with IEPs, but their classmates too. Because inclusion doesn’t end at instruction, it extends to how we celebrate, encourage, and care for one another.

Each bag will include pop-it keychains, stretchy strings, mini stress balls, playdough, stickers, and coloring books, items that help with focus, self-regulation, and emotional well-being. Sending these home is a way to extend the care and support they have experienced in our classroom.

For some children, this may be the only personalized recognition they receive. For others, it is a reminder that someone believes in them. For all, it is a symbol of belonging.

“You matter. I see your effort. You did something amazing this year.”
