My Students
My students are children with special needs between the ages of five to twelve years old. I work with a variety of disabilities including autism and down syndrome. Indulging the students I work with in social opportunities and the same opportunities as typically developing children allows them to gain confidence and to learn! While the students I work with engage in social opportunities, having fidget toys and or sensory objects available may help with regulating their body.
I work with a diverse group of students and families with a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
Some of my students have limited financial support from their families and rely heavily on community support. My goal is to provide these sites with tools to support the students in their classes with special needs.
My Project
The products selected will allow me to create sensory bins for the classroom teachers to use with students with special needs. The fidget and sensory tools will hopefully help with managing the student's behaviors while in the the general education classroom as well as provide them with a sensory break when needed.
With taking sensory breaks or using a fidget toy during instruction, the students will hopefully be more focused and able to learn.
Providing the teachers who have limited resources with sensory and fidget tools will hopefully allow the students with special needs to become more focused during instruction.
