My Students
Would you have a high school student ready to get their driver's license ride to school on a bike with training wheels? Then why should a violin student in high school play on the instrument they used in fifth grade? It's time to provide them an opportunity to upgrade.
Our school district has beginning strings in fifth grade.
By the time students enter our four year public high school, many of them are still playing on the instrument they started on. I would like to give them an opportunity to try out a higher quality instrument for longer than a few minutes in a local music store. Research clearly indicates that students who participate in the arts stand a better chance of improving their overall academic performance. Your support of this project would help us reach more students over the years that these instruments are in use. Many of the instruments in our inventory are over fifty years old and still used daily.
My Project
We are requesting funds to purchase three violins and three additional carbon fiber bows to add to our inventory of musical instruments. Our school has a one hundred ten year history of a strong orchestra program and I intend to see that it is around for at least another one hundred and ten! Giving students the opportunity to continue playing a high quality instrument will help inspire them for years to come. Providing instruments to incoming students who cannot afford one or need to borrow one will greatly increase the retention in our program. Hopefully, over time, our students will realize how important the arts are to the daily lives of the community they live in and will become life-long supporters of the arts themselves. Your support of this project will help us to continue the music making for years to come.
Our school has a large inventory of instruments that are over fifty years old.
Many of these are in use daily. However, very few of them are string instruments. I would like to increase the number of strings in our collection to make it easier for orchestra students to continue in high school. Three violins may not seem like a lot, but that is potentially 6 students a day for fifty years. Your support of this project can bring enjoyment to hundreds of students for years to come.
