My students need new interesting books such as the "Standing Tall and Talented" series to motivate them to read more and enjoy books. They need books about characters they can relate to and subjects that interest them.

My Students

"The greatest gift is a passion for reading," Elizabeth Hardwick said, and I would like to give this gift to my students with new chapter books.

My students attend a Title 1 school in a high needs area where they receive free breakfast and lunch each day.

My class consists of students with differing abilities as it is an Integrated Co Teaching classroom and students with disabilities are learning in a classroom with their non-disabled peers. They are motivated to learn but do not have high interest books to enjoy reading and learning. Many of these students live in poverty and have limited or no exposure to books outside of school. Fund this project and my students will have the tools to unlock a long lasting love for books!

My Project

The books I am requesting include, the Hank Zipzer series by Henry Winkler and the Stat series by Amare Stoudemire. The first book I read aloud to my class this year was the first book in the Hank Zipzer series. I knew the class would like the book but I was surprised how much they loved it and related to the main character. The minute we finished the first book they started asking if we could read the next one. They were amazed by the fact that the book was based on the real life of the author. The students in my class love sports and sports related stories too. We have a lot of Knicks fans in the class and I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when I show them the Stat books. Imagine being motivated to read but having no access to interesting books? My students would be so excited to have these books as part of our classroom library.
