Feeling Fresh and Clean

My students need daily life essentials such as soap, deodorant, and other hygiene products so that they can arrive to school feeling their best each day.

My Students

I work at a Title One school filled with culturally diverse learners; in my classroom, you will find Asian, African-American and Hispanic students with unique personalities and various learning styles and levels. My students' reading levels range from Beginning Readers to fifth grade.

My students are able to receive a free breakfast and lunch regardless of income; many of them also receive free backpacks filled with foods to take home on the weekends.

The children travel from a variety of neighborhoods to get to school daily with some families walking as far as 30 minutes just to bring their children to school. Many of them don't have much, but they do have a passion for learning.

My Project

Working in a Title I school, it is not uncommon to come across students who live in an environment where they have far less than what is necessary for survival. At home, they don't always possess the necessary daily life essentials such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and deodorant; female students often do not possess the feminine products necessary when on their menstrual cycles.

Providing my students with daily life essentials will empower them to feel and be their best selves when they arrive to school.

Without these items, students don't feel their best and are often made fun of by their peers.
