My Students

I am incredibly lucky to work with the students that I do! My students have a wonderful passion for music and incorporate it into their lives in and out of school. We are a Title I inner-city school, located in Southern Connecticut. Our school administration and staff are very supportive of our music program and roughly 20% of our entire student body is enrolled in the band!

Every year our program grows but unfortunately, our budget does not.

As our program grows, we are able to tackle more challenging pieces and perform throughout our community. Our budget covers essential supplies but as a result, we are not able to grow our inventory as much as is needed.

My Project

When I first started teaching, we only had a handful of students in our band. We were only able to cover the bass drum and snare drum parts for the percussion section, so we didn't need to worry so much about the auxiliary percussion instruments like the temple blocks or Vibra-Slap. Now our band program, having grown so much over the last year, is in desperate need of these percussion pieces.

Needing more instruments is always a "good" problem to have but a problem nonetheless.

We have made due with the few items that I have been able to purchase or get second hand, but my students deserve to have high quality percussion instruments to perform on. Being able to perform on appropriate equipment is not only necessary but it is also incredibly motivating! My students deserve everything that is needed to have an amazing performance they walk away from feeling absolute pride!
