Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 3rd-grade students are enthusiastic, motivated diverse learners who work extra hard for every gain that they make. My students are with me in a separate, self-contained classroom setting for Reading and Math. They are emerging readers who take pride in each new word that they read! In my classroom, we celebrate everyone's accomplishments, however large or small.
The students lend words of encouragement and praise to each other without my prompting.
They are truly rooting for each other's success! Most of my students come from low-income backgrounds where it is difficult to find resources for "extras" like books and reading materials.
My Project
The books that have been requested will help to "beef" up a rather paltry classroom library in which most of the books are not at the students' reading level as I previously taught a higher grade. The students are so excited to practice their newfound reading skills and it is difficult for them to find books that they can feel successful reading. We need books that the students can read with some fluency so that they are motivated to keep reading!
These books will be an integral part of our classroom!
Students will check out books on a weekly basis. They will read the books, write a quick report and give their review of the stories so that others can decide if it is a book that they would also like to read. Additionally, these books will be used to support students who finish assignments early and want to keep busy and motivated. Finally, and most importantly, these books will help foster a love of reading for these students for years to come. Your help will give the gift of literacy to a group of students who will use that gift for their whole lives!
