Cajon drums are versatile instruments that will transform our music classroom by offering students a hands-on, engaging way to explore rhythm and percussion. These instruments encourage collaboration, creativity, and self-expression while helping students build foundational musical skills. The cajons are accessible for all learners, regardless of their experience level, and allow students to develop coordination, timing, and teamwork as they play together. By incorporating cajons into lessons, I can create a more inclusive environment where students feel confident contributing to group performances and expressing themselves through music.
My primary goal is to provide students with more opportunities for active music-making.
The cajons will serve as a tool to teach rhythm, improvisation, and ensemble playing while encouraging students to connect emotionally with music. I also aim to integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into our lessons by using the cajons for activities that promote self-awareness, active listening, and communication. Ultimately, I want my students to leave class with a deeper appreciation for music and a sense of accomplishment from creating something meaningful together.
My students are curious, creative, and full of potential. They come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives and talents to our classroom. Many of them use music as a way to express themselves and find joy, even in challenging times. What makes them truly special is their eagerness to explore new things and their willingness to work together as a team. Providing them with cajon drums would give them another outlet to discover their strengths, build confidence, and grow not just as musicians but as individuals.
