My Project
My students are young. They should not have to know about inequality and how they are different, but society is pushing and pushing that narrative. Even in Kindergarten and First Grade, my students will learn hard lessons.
I want to create a space where EVERYONE feels safe I want them to know that when they walk in my room they will be welcomed and included, no matter what makes them different.
I want to be a bright light in their day. From books with people who look different from them on the covers to band-aids that match their skin tones, I hope they feel like they belong.
I also want to make sure that my room is equipped to be a landing spot for a student who may have learned a hard lesson, that the world isn't fair and just. I want to make sure that no matter the race, ability, or socioeconomic status, students can come to my room and use the resources like the little family figures, the calming lights, and the building stones to create and express their own life. I hope they walk away knowing life might not be fair, but that we can all rise above the world.
