My Students
My students are ready to learn and eager for what the day is to bring. Many of my students come from low-income families, and this is their first real experience at school.
My kids start the year as eager 3 to 4-year-olds, ready to see what big school is all about.
The 22 students in my pre-k class come from varying living circumstances, but they are all eager to learn. Many of these students are from single-parent households or living with other relatives. For many of them, they come to school not knowing how to write their name or even identify the letters in their name. Instead, they come with their desire to learn and ready hugs and smiles as they embrace school and learning.
This year may be different as we have started virtually, I still want them to look forward to coming to school and learn should they return this school year. In many cases, these students don't know how to share or how to express emotions they are feeling. Despite this, they are eager to learn, explore, experience, and discover the world around them.
My Project
These materials will give my students additional items to use during centers. Right now we have blocks, writing, reading, listening, music, art, science, math, and dramatic play. These materials will help the students' imagination in dramatic play and in blocks.
Dramatic Play gives students the best opportunities to learn to interact with each other, use their imaginations, and role-play different careers and stories.
With these baby dolls and cooking accessories, not only are they pretend playing the roles of mom and dad they are learning about what is essential in helping to take care of human beings by cooking food or pretending to be chefs.
One of the high chairs we currently have is broken and needs to be replaced. These high chairs will give them the chance to use them at the table to feed the babies and they will match the crib we have.
We've recently replaced our dolls, but these were sold out in our last project so I'd like to add them to the collections of dolls we have to help with the diversity of the dolls and the quality. The shelf is to help display not only the new cookware and utensils along with additional items we already have.
The animals are for the block's center. The ones we currently have are loved by the children, but they are dirty and old looking. There are also not as many of them as there used to be, so arguments arise because there aren't enough to share.
Dramatic Play is key to helping students interact with each other, develop their communication skills and use their imagination. When they are engaged, they are more eager to learn not only in centers, but also in other areas.
