Feeding Our Minds With A Snack A Day

Help me give my students granola bars, fruit snacks, water, and other snacks to nourish their minds and keep them focused throughout the day.

My Students

Although my students do not have the necessary materials to succeed, I am trying to close the achievement gap. After a ​review of student grades and school-wide data, there is an indication that students with disabilities are the lowest performing at our school. Aside from having various disabilities, my students also have many issues at home which has a huge effect on them as well.

The students in my class have many disabilities, many of them are reading far below grade level and have difficulty retaining information.

As a special education teacher, I am responsible for providing excellent instruction to my students while taking into consideration their various learning styles.

My Project

My students need granola bars, water, fruit snacks, and other snacks to help keep them focused throughout the day. All of my students come from low-income households and many are currently residing in temporary housing. My students often come to school without eating breakfast, not by choice, but by circumstance. Currently, in the classroom, we have a snack closet the students can go to throughout the day to get a snack. Some students take snacks home for their siblings because that may be the only snacks they will have. Most of my students do not bring in a daily snack and get hungry especially in the afternoon and it is difficult for them to focus.

My students live in a community that was greatly impacted By covid-19, Snacks are an integral component of life in school because it keeps them alert, motivated and energized to continue learning throughout the day, providing appropriate nutrition will also increase brain functioning to process critical information in each and every subject at school.

Students will benefit from the snacks both at school and at home as well.
