FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Bomber's classroom raised $428
This project is fully funded
My Students
Cooking is a fun way to engage students in a variety of academic and life skills tasks. FEED USA can help us fund this project so we can cook to learn and learn to cook!
Our amazing group of students are in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
In our self contained special education classroom we celebrate our differences and strive to find innovative ways to approach our challenges. Whether a child has a communication disorder such as autism, health impairment or behavioral challenge, we appreciate each unique individual as someone with unlimited potential. It is our goal to provide what is necessary for each student to make progress on academic, behavioral and life skills goals throughout the school year and most importantly improve the quality of their lives and their families lives.
My Project
This project will provide an engaging activity by which students will learn academic skills such as literacy (identify words in the recipe, match symbols), math (measurement, addition), writing (what did we learn, write the recipe) and life skills (following directions, learning a routine, cooking, cleaning up) with help from FEED USA. The blender will help us make fruit smoothies and other healthy snack options. The induction cook top will provide a safe way to make popcorn, soup and other foods on the stove because it will not stay warm when the pot is removed from the surface. The Visual Recipes Cookbook and Cooking to Learn activities will allow all students access to these life skills through the visual supports built into the lessons.
With shrinking budgets, unique and engaging activities are difficult to create with the resources we currently have.
If our students had the opportunity to learn to cook in the classroom then we will be providing them with essential skills that will enable them to achieve their IEP goals.
