This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a first year teacher and recently graduated from college in April 2023. In school, I always struggled to find motivation do my absolute best work and participate in routine activities. My heart is for my kids to know their work will be rewarded; I have been doing so by spending my own money on various full sized candy and sodas for them.

In my classroom, I have a system called "W Bucks" where students can earn tickets and use them to pick the reward of their choice.

When students actively engage by answering and asking questions, or working diligently on the project at hand, I will give out these W Bucks so they can save up to buy something of real value to them. My school does not have vending machines for the students so this is a rarity for the students to have access to these snacks.

Since I started this system, I have had great success in student engagement which is difficult and not common in a Title I school. I love my students so dearly and I want the best for them; the best is a simple solution but it means so much more to them than a mint or jolly rancher. I have students that come in after school from different classes to clean my room and pick up garbage to earn W Bucks. Please help me feed my starving artists.
