This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom is currently comprised of 12 preschoolers, ages 3-5, with special needs. They are a lively bunch and love being hands on with their activities and lessons. They enjoy having creative freedom and exploring. Their behaviors are often sensory seeking in nature. I would love to provide more options in which they are able to feed that need for sensory input.

Having a room that is play based and sensory friendly is very important for our preschoolers!

The items I have requested will help my students achieve that need in their sensory diet. I have students who prefer to have their shoes off and the floor mat options would be helpful for them. Many of them enjoy playing in the dirt and would love to have different themed kinetic sand options to explore in. I enjoy having on screen savers with beta fish so I think the tube light would be wonderful to have in the room, especially when a student needs some peace in their day. The peanut ball would be well loved because I have many that seek that type of movement with other items in the room. The squish toys and calm stickers will help with my students who are in need of a special fidget that isn't as distracting for them to use. There is also an assortment of weighted toys to help with calming little bodies. My students enjoy reading time with a weighted blanket or stuffed animal and having more options for them will allow more children to have access to those comforts.
