My Students
Whether it's a pyramid or a plate, students need to learn about where food comes from and how it affects their health and minds.
My students are in the Sierra, where the winters are cold and the summers are hot.
Many come from homes with limited budgets and learning how to grow their own food in our climate will provide them opportunities to learn about healthy eating and nutrition on a shoestring budget.
My Project
The garden will illustrate to my students a sustainable way to provide nutrition from a garden. We will be able to examine how plants grow and see exactly where our food comes from. Hopefully, this activity will inspire them to begin a garden or compost pile at home. In addition, this will bring primary and older students in our school together to work on a joint project for the mutual goal of growing a garden!
The saying goes, "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.
Teach him to fish and eats for life." Let's give students the ability and skills needed to make healthy nutrition choices based on science.
