This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes.
My students want to learn and they are constantly seeking opportunities to push their work to the next level.
They are motivated and eager to do well. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education- an education that they know is the key to a better future.
My Project
Having a wealth of breakfast options and even quick lunch/snack options will go a long way in focusing my students and keeping them motivated. The snacks include chips, cereal bars, and fruit snacks. These nutritious snacks will be beneficial, not only to help students focus but to lift up their spirits!
Studies show that when students are hungry, they cannot focus on their school work.
My students already have a lot of issues that consume them on a daily basis. If we can help eliminate the barrier of them being hungry and in the process further engage them in learning, it is a win for all of us.
