Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

11th-grade students at our school in San Francisco are working towards graduating with a diploma and going onto a four-year university. Students take eight class periods a semester and are enrolled in city college courses. They also participate in internships, working on and off campus with community partners in activism and social justice projects.

Our students take on rigorous coursework and are engaged in social justice, while living with trauma and challenges that inhibit coming to school on time, getting enough sleep, and eating a good breakfast.

Our students work hard, address real life issues impacting society including deportation, gentrification, housing displacement, racism, sexism, and ableism. We want to do what we can to meet their basic needs.

My Project

This project will provide food and water for students including snacks such as oatmeal, granola bars, macaroni, and cheese, fruit snacks, and crackers. Students often request access to our Wellness Center and Office to get snacks, tea, and water throughout the day.

Time spent out of the classroom takes away from learning.

In an effort to support their basic human needs that are not being met outside of school, this project will stock all of the 11th grade classrooms with food and water minimizing the amount of time spent out of class and encouraging students to consistently come to school.
