About My Students

Our class is amazing. They listen like professionals. They take videos daily of the discussion and stories that we make in class.

These kids love to read! Today we just started reading and they were basically eating up the books as if they were living on a desert island and starving to death.

These kids are jealous of my other class who got a project funded on Donors Choose to get some snacks that we use to refresh ourselves during reading time. So, I now have a student here with me hoping to hit up some of you generous donors for some snack foods to keep us well-fed, motivated, and low on the jealousy scale.

Our students need to keep their motivation up as they read. This sustenance will keep them well-nourished and focused on their work. Reading is a fundamental skill for success in Spanish language literacy. It is a very basic academic need and a human function to be curious about the world and learn about language and various topics through the magic of reading. These snacks will be distributed during our daily reading time, to keep the students' motivation up. Also, the student who is assisting with the writing of this project will experience the satisfaction of leadership, as they will be able lad our class to track our storehouse of foodstuffs and distribute it equitably in such a way as to not run out by year's end. This teamwork will bring our class together. The equal distribution of our resources will teach us teamwork and economizing our resources.

In Their Own Words

I want to not be starving by the end of fourth period, because I want to be able to focus on my work. I am distracted by hunger by the time fourth period rolls around. This will help us all get better grades and learn more, and doesn't everyone like to learn more and get better grades?

I will be able to distribute the snacks and teach my classmates a respectful way to share them with everyone. We will vote on when and how to eat the snacks so that they last all year. Also, we will learn to distribute resources to those in need, which is an important quality in today's political landscape.

It is important to me because I am normally really hungry, and so are many of our classmates. Many students are forced to consume their lunch during third and fourth period, to stave off hunger pangs and be able to focus. But then by the time lunch comes around they have nothing to eat, and so they are very hungry in the afternoon classes.
