Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students that I work with come from poverty-stricken backgrounds and more than half of my school population comes from nearby shelters. When a student is experiencing homelessness, they do not want to further stand out by asking for a snack. We have snack time at 11:00 each day because the fifth grade students do not eat lunch until 1:00.

If I can offer snacks to the students, it gives them the little boost they need to keep going with their learning and it prevents them from being ostracized by their peers.

We need Oreos, fruit snacks and pop tarts. By giving a simple snack, the students also know that they are cared for and they are valued and that can make all the difference in the world.
