My students need hamster, bird, reptile, and fish food and supplies to take care of the classroom pets.

My Students
Many of my students don't have the chance to enjoy the responsibility of raising pets. My classroom and enclosed courtyard have an assortment of animals for my students to raise and experience the joy of pet ownership.
My high school is a low income urban school in North Texas.
Many of my students live in apartments and have had limited exposure to nature their entire lives. By giving them a chance to experience nature and animals, I believe that I can give them a better empathy for nature when they experience it first hand.
My Project
Classroom pets are a great way to motivate students to look forward to a science class. Unfortunately living creatures require food and other supplies that don't typically fall into the normal class supplies list. My Environmental Science classes are classes that freshmen and sophomores look forward to taking because of the experience of working in the courtyard and taking care of the animals.
Learning the role of responsibility by caring for a pet is a lesson that students of all ages can benefit from.
Unfortunately low income students often never have this opportunity at home.
