This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 5th graders live in a northwest side neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. We are part of a very large public school district and Hispanic population. Most of my class are from low-income families not native to America. My students are diverse, second language learners with cultural backgrounds from Puerto Rico, Mexico, and other South American countries.
We are a very proud classroom family that strives for excellence and always tries their best!
My class is an ELA classroom that consists of reluctant second language learners that struggle to stay engaged and very shy. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve student communication with their peers, but they will be able to feel more confident when in debates, giving presentations and speeches.
My Project
My students love the digital world! This year I want them to use their artistic abilities along with many other untapped talents to create presentations they can be proud of. The students will create projects for them to practice and overcome their speaking phobias in a classroom setting while increasing their social-emotional skills. By using the Ipevo 5 Document Camera from Amazon Business, students will be able to present their artistic work while feeling more comfortable learning from each other, using constructive conversation techniques. This will give my second language learners multiple opportunities to share orally in order for them to develop vocabulary, language, and understanding of the English language.
By using Hisonic HS210 Wireless Microphones and ViewSonic Projector from Amazon Business, the students will be able to present in front of their peers with the confidence of a true leader as well as increase the quality of their presentations.
This project will provide students multiple opportunities to develop speech skills, assertiveness, and ultimately leadership skills as well as give students many opportunities throughout the year to share their work with each other, by explaining their thought process and constructively critique their own work.
