FDA Goes to Ghana

My students need 6 digital cameras.

This project is fully funded

We have planned a wonderful trip for our students. The tour will include visiting historic sights and attractions in Ghana, West Africa, and learning the art of batiking. The highlight for us will be the opportunity to render Community Services to orphans in Ghana and also to Ghanaian school children. I teach Technology as well as Social Studies, and have written a manual/guide book/journal for the students to use before (in preparation), during and after the trip. The participating students are 8th graders.

Our school is an inner city, Title I school in New York. Parents and teachers are cooperating to raise the funds to finance this trip through donations and personal sacrifices. A journey such as this requires more than simply paying for the airfare and hotels.

As a requirement for the completion of their journals, students must take photos of the places we visit so that they can be added to the journal upon our return. Also, our students have been writing to Pen Pals at the Middle School which we will visit in Ghana. It would be wonderful if they can take pictures of their pen pals when they meet them in person. Purchasing a camera can be an exorbitant expense added to the already high cost of going on this trip

Young Scholars Making a Difference program at our school strives to develop scholars into global thinkers, learners, and leaders. YSMD combines our rigorous academic curriculum with hands on community service activities. YSMD fosters civic responsibility, integrity, and positive citizenship in our scholars, as well as helps each scholar to think critically, and to understand, and appreciate the diversity of a global society. It is our goal that through the YSMD program we will help nurture our scholars to make a difference in the world. Our motto is “Each one teach one makes the world grow stronger because helping you, helps me and our society." Please help us with this, our first effort to render community services in a global perspective.
