Fast Food Nation

My students need 30 copies of the book Fast Food Nation to relate to our discussion on fast food.

My Students

Changing the youth's view of fast food and its health hazards is critical to creating healthy adults. We are currently discussing how advertisers, marketers, and adults all contribute to the growing problem of obesity in our culture.

My students are urban youths attending a public school in Southern California.

Every street corner is filled with fast food joints including multiple fried chicken places. These students can be future leaders of change if given the proper motivation.

My Project

Having students read Fast Food Nation will open their eyes to this industry and help them make informed food choices for the rest of their lives. Students will read this book together as a class and discuss alternative choices. Students will learn the ins and outs of the fast food industry through the reading of this book. Class discussions will focus on alternative choices they can make regarding what food to eat. This can create a lifestyle change that will impact them for the rest of their lives.

Creating positive change begins with realizing the problem that exists.

These students are bombarded with messages telling them about all the convenience and lack of expense related to eating fast food. Giving them a clear picture of what this all means will inspire them to make alternative choices.
