My Students
Science does not know it's debt to imagination. {Ralph Waldo Emerson} It's my goal to capture my students' imagination with meaningful resources. Close reading, text features, text structures, and interactive activities are huge components to Common Core which will drive my students' yearly growth.
My students and I have made our journey together from kindergarten to first grade.
We are a class of 18, ranging from ELL, ESE, and gifted. There are four languages spoken with a large number of parents serving in the military and National Guard. The school is primarily free and reduced lunch with low income families.
My Project
Cross curricular is the name of the game by integrating science content inside my literacy block. Students will use the life science interactive games during independent work stations. The non fiction readers will gain tons of use with informational writing during writers workshop. We'll also use the the readers to close read during readers workshop by identifying and using text features or text structure to understand the text. We've been working on learning all our bones since kindergarten. The visual of the human bone will allow for a concrete example.
I am convinced that having these science materials will enhance not only science instruction and student understanding of concepts but it will support other content areas, too.
With a focus to move student to their performance goal, I'm certain adding these resources will sprinkle a little fun while meeting our yearly expectations.
