Farm Fresh Learning: Growing Life Skills in Special Ed

Help me give my students with cognitive delays the opportunity to explore where food comes from and how it gets to their plates—through sensory-rich, hands-on experiences that promote language development, life skills, and social engagement.

My Project

Many of our students learn best through direct, concrete experiences. This project will bring the farm-to-table concept to life in our classroom through activities such as planting seeds, exploring fruits and vegetables, pretend play with farmers market stands, and simple cooking experiences. With the help of adapted materials, visual supports, and multi-sensory tools, students will engage in learning that supports communication, fine motor development, and real-world understanding.

Your support will help us purchase items such as child-sized gardening tools, sensory bins with soil and seeds, pretend food and farm animal toys, adaptive cooking tools.

These materials will allow us to build meaningful routines that are accessible to children with varying needs and abilities.
