This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently a Special Education teacher at an elementary school. I have 12 EBD (Emotional Behavior Disorder). I teach 3 grade ranges from 3rd to 5th graders. Despite the differences, what all my students have in common is that they are a group of awesome special education students. They have a wide range of disabilities, needs, talents, and interests. Some struggle to communicate their ideas and feelings, while others are great public speakers and expressing their thoughts comes easily. Some struggle with writing and need a lot of support to put words on paper, while others find writing an enjoyable hobby. Lastly, some are reading grade level novels independently while others need to hear all texts read aloud in order to comprehend them.

My Project

Before Hurricane Irma we didn't have the equipment to be physically active, but after Hurricane Irma I would like to teach my EBD students that there is more to life than cursing, fighting or getting themselves suspended from school. My EBD students are always up and moving in some way. They are very active and very hyper during their P.E. time. From warm-up's to competitive races, our goal is to be physically fit by pushing and motivating each other along the way. To make sure we reach this goal we are in need of equipment to maintain our interest.

This is why I am asking for Flag Football Deluxe Gear Set, Height Adjustable Portable Basketball 44 inch backboard, basketballs, and Igloo Max Cold Quantum for my students to use while they are actively moving during our hour block in P.E.

The cooler will be used to keep their water bottles cold and keep them hydrate. Equipment is limited and my students and I have to be creative with competitions we partake in. The adjustable basketball backboard would teach my students how to play as a team and not against each other. They will have to pass the ball and win as a team and not a one person game. The flag football gear would teach my students to get the flag and not tackle each other. This will teach my students to keep their hands to themselves. With your assistance, physical education can become more rewarding because my students will be using equipment they have never been exposed to, learning new skills in different sports, and work together as a team.
