My Project
The nets, magnifiers, and field notebooks will encourage students to do science in a way that has them using real materials to conduct their investigations and draw their conclusions.
For the past two years, our campus has been bombarded with insects and birds, even killdeer (a water bird hanging out and laying eggs) on our suburban desert grassy fields, my SPARK students and I have been fascinated by the volume of grasshoppers, moths, and atypical bird visit and want to get into the scientific method with asking specific questions, doing some research in library and with some Arizona biologists from AZ Game and Fish and ASU, then going out to explore and investigate more closely, noting our observations with written and hand-drawn notes in field notebooks and then drawing some conclusions.
Looking forward to asking questions and exploring our own campus habitat more closely with students and conducting these investigations to study results and answer their questions. Inquiry-based learning is the best and builds on students' curiosity which makes it more meaningful.
