This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students in the self-contained class struggle with reading and have a strong dislike for independent reading periods in school. Although students are given reading interventions and reading pens, I have noticed that they still have a strong dislike for reading. My hope is that in buying modern books with an array of characters who look and sound like my students, they will be more interested and excited in reading. Additionally, I believe that these books are within their lexile reading ranges which will also make reading more fun as opposed to laborious and intense. Please help me realize this goal for my class!
